FrontPage is one of the most popular web authoring programs, developed by Microsoft. While the FrontPage Editor is a graphical editor that is used specifically for designing web pages, FrontPage Explorer is a tool that is used to construct and manage entire websites. Web-Bots are also integrated with the Microsoft FrontPage program, which is deployed for generating password protection and searching codes. The FrontPage program is available for both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems.


There are a few killer tips and tricks that will definitely come in handy for webmasters when they are working with FrontPage.

  1. To insert a JavaScript code in FrontPage, click ‘Normal’ view, choose ‘Insert’, ‘Web Component’, and then ‘ Advanced Controls ’. Then, select ‘HTML’ and paste the Java Script code in FrontPage.

  2. For editing the components of Web Bots, select ‘View’ from the drop-down menu and put a checkmark on the ‘Reveal Tags’ option. You will now see your code as a Web-Bot component. Simply right click on the component, which is symbolized by a question mark and a small yellow square, and start editing.

  3. To make a Hyperlink, open in a separate window, click on the target frame in the Hyperlink properties, which is denoted by a little pencil, and select the option ‘New Window’ from the common targets.

  4. If you want the color of your text to be changed by a mouse-over action, in the ‘Normal’ mode’, select ‘File’, and then ‘Properties’ from the drop-down menu. Now, select the option ’Background’ and check the option that states 'Enable Hyperlink Rollover Effects ', and choose ‘Rollover Style’. You can now select your color, inkjet cartridges, and the font effects. So, when you mouse-over the text, the text will change color and display certain text effects as well.

  5. To set FrontPage as your default editor, open Internet Explorer and choose the Tools option. Now, navigate to ‘Internet Options’ and choose ‘Programs’. Then, choose FrontPage as your HTML editor. Also, make sure that the checkbox ‘Check if FrontPage is the default editor for pages' is checked. You will find this in the ‘General’ tab of ‘Options’.

  6. For a single spaced line-break, the keyboard shortcut can be accessed with the keys 'Shift' and ‘Enter’, pressed at the same time.

  7. To open PHP pages instead of using the text editor in FrontPage, navigate to ‘Tools’, ‘Options’, and select ‘Configure Editors’ to change Frontpg.exe’s file association.

  8. If your images have poor quality, it is better to optimize and enhance those images with printer ink or another software, and save it outside FrontPage using an appropriate format. It is advisable not to use the FrontPage image editing tools for editing images. After the images are modified, it can be imported into your web.

  9. To copy a piece of text that has a specific formatting to another, there is a tool called ‘ Format Painter ’ that can be utilized. Firstly, select the text you intend to copy. Then, choose ‘View’ from the menu, move to ‘Toolbars’, and click ‘Standard’. Now, from the ‘Standard Toolbar’, double-click on the button ‘Format Painter’. You will then have to select the text and (inkjet cartridges) which you want to apply that format to. Finally, click on the ‘Format Painter’ button again to render the text formatting.

  10. If you want to insert Excel data in your web page, you have to select the range of cells in Excel and click on the range’s border. Then, simply drag and drop it in the FrontPage Editor . The Excel table gets converted into HTML.
